About Us

Save Byron Bees: Bee Local. Bee Together.

Mission

Save Byron Bees is a grassroots campaign supporting backyard beekeepers in the Northern Rivers region of NSW. With the increasing threat of pests like Varroa destructor, we aim to protect and strengthen our local bee population through community action, education, and direct support.

Run by

A nonprofit initiative of Happy Bee, supported by CloudWood Apiaries and local beekeepers, mentors, and the broader Byron region.

What We Do

  • Fund and distribute miticide treatments to local backyard beekeepers.
  • Raise awareness about the critical role of bees and the real cost of raw honey.
  • Support queen bee breeding and hive hosting.
  • Promote planting for pollinators and responsible beekeeping.
  • Encourage buying 100% Australian raw honey, especially Byron Raw.

Core Messages

  • Real honey isn’t cheap. Cheap honey isn’t real.
  • Tell it to the bees—our mental health, food security, and ecosystems depend on them.
  • Backyard beekeepers are the frontline in the fight against bee extinction.
  • Supermarket honey is often imported and heavily processed—support local instead.
